Siri Samanthabadra Theo was born on 24th February 1975. Every year, we celebrate this day by carrying out various meritorious deeds both at the Siri Sadaham Ashramaya and Umandawa Maha Vihara Ashramaya. This year, the 46th birthday of Siri Samanthabhadra Maha Thero was celebrated with a limited number of people and few events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jaya Pirith chanting was carried out for a whole week from the 16th to the 23rd February. Stationary and other necessary equipment were offered to over hundred children from the Polpithigama education division in Kurunegala on 23rd February. An alms ceremony for fifty Bhikkus and Bhikkunis was held on the 24th and lunch was served to everyone who attended the ceremony.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open the navy-installed 821st Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at Umandawa Maha Vihara Monastery. The new facility made available at the monastery will be here on fulfil safe drinking water requirement of devotees visiting the Monastery, people of Madahapola area and surrounding villages. Subsequent to this, the Navy Commander also opened the newly-built ‘Seetha Maligaya’ (Winter Palace). Many other dignitaries including Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathna, senior officers and sailors of Northwestern Naval Command, Senior Deputy Inspector General North Western Province also attended these events.
All events were held in accordance with COVID-19 protocols in place.
